Season One [edit]

The starting time flavour of the serial, The Cooking Showdown kitchen is located in the main barn at the Quadrangle Trust, nigh Shoreham in Kent. Each rut featured two teams, while each semi-last and the last featured three teams. At that place were 12 episodes in full, and one episode aired per week.

Flavour 1 featured ii judges, Giorgio Locatelli and Rosemary Shrager, and two presenters Nadiya Hussain and Zoe Brawl. Only one of the presenters would travel to the home visit claiming, which took place in the contestants' homes. Still, both presenters were present in the barn, except for the concluding episode, which didn't feature Zoe Ball.

Heats [edit]

In each episode, ii teams comprising iii family members competed in 3 fourth dimension-limited rounds. At the stop of the three rounds, a winner was selected, who moved on to one of a series of semi-concluding rounds.

  • Round 1: The £10 Challenge (ane hour and 15 minutes): In the £x Challenge, the teams must set two courses for four on a budget.
  • Round two: Abode Visits Challenge (1 hour and 30 minutes): Each squad cooks and serves a primary form and a dessert for the judges in their own habitation kitchen.
  • Round three: Print the Neighbours Challenge (2 hours and 15 minutes): The teams returne to the barn to create their finest starter and a main class, with no budget.[3]

Semi-finals [edit]

  • What'south in the Fridge? tests the families creativity as home cooks. The judges provide a limited range of ingredients. Each team has 1 hr to cook a main course for 4 people.
  • For the Perfect Puddings challenge, each judge "carefully select a firm family unit favourite" for the teams to make in ane hour and 20 minutes.
  • The Nation's Favourite With a Twist challenge asks families "for their unique take on a British archetype." The teams have 2 hours for this challenge.[iv]

All three challenges were staged in the Cooking Showdown barn.

A total of sixteen families took part in the competition. There were 14 episodes in total of the second flavour, which were aired across three weeks. Up to five episodes would air per week on the weeknights.

In each episode, the teams are given two tasks - one they accept had time to do at dwelling house, the other a complete surprise, testing their collective ability to piece of work together and think on their anxiety.[7]

Heats [edit]

In dissimilarity to only two families in the first flavor, four families take part in each of the four heats. However, each oestrus runs across two episodes. Reception [edit]

Virtually the location, Sally Newall, writing for The Independent said, "Instead of the Bake Off tent, there's a barn conversion with a country-kitchen-meets-early-Noughties warehouse-conversion vibe. There is lots of wood, exposed brick, shiny copper lampshades and those letters with low-cal bulbs that you tend to come across at weddings.[11] Michael Hogan, writing for The Daily Telegraph described the kitchen as a "classy befouled, kitted out in twee, shabby chic style to resemble something from a glossy interiors magazine."[12] Stuart Heritage of The Guardian called it "Bland, awkward and awful".[thirteen]

Scheduling conflict [edit]

Later on Channel 4's announcement that they will broadcast The Nifty British Bake Off on Tuesdays opposite The Big Family Cooking Show, the BBC moved the show to Th to avoid a scheduling conflict. The BBC said, "Channel four's decision to move Bake Off from its long-term traditional Wednesday slot will exist a surprise to many viewers who may see this equally a cynical move. We never intended for our new cookery evidence to clash with theirs. At that place is room for both and we don't, in this instance, meet any public value in ii public service broadcasters going head-to-caput in this way."
